Joana Amendoeira is considered one of the most important Fado singers of the New Generation. Her voice confers to Fado a new glow and a new attitude without differing from its tradition. She will perform in Lumiere Cinema on Dec 5, 2018, 19:30 h

Joana was born in Santarém (Ribatejo), one of the Portuguese regions with a substantial Fado tradition; at an early age she discovered the appeal to become a Fado singer; and the age of twelve she won her first prize at the „Grande Noite do Fado do Porto“.

During the course of her career, Joana had the opportunity to perform in Lisbon’s best Fado Houses („Clube de Fado“ and „Sr. Vinho“), which allowed her to absorb the knowledge from the great Fado’s veterans both singers and musicians. These veterans acknowledged Joana’s special voice, attitude, and talent; and kindly conceded her their art, poetry and life stories. Joana’s latest Fado album, „Amor mais perfeito“ (2012), is a special tribute to José Fontes Rocha, her master and one of the best Fado’s composers and guitar player.

Joana’s career comprises eight Fado albums; numerous participations in special Fado’s compilations, both national and international; several prizes, amongst them the best 2008 „Disco de Fado“ granted by the „Fundação Amália Rodrigues“; showcases at several Music World Fairs, such as in 2003 „Mercat de Musica Viva de VIC“ (Spain) and in 2005 „Strictly Mundial“ (Canada); and tours throughout Spain, Italy, Hungary, Lithuania, Sweden, Brazil, Argentina, USA, India and Japan. Joana proudly defends Fado’s legacy without disregarding her own artistic expression.
